External HDD ?/Problem

i have a wd 500 gb external hdd (usb). i have 386 gigs of free space left on it. i've had this problem several times, whenever i want to transfer a file over 7 gigs or so, it says it can't copy it because there's not enough free space. anyone suggestions?
 
thanks for the reply cohen... i can't take everything off of it, i don't have enough room on my hdd on my computer to do that....
