External HDD question

This might be a silly question but for you guys who have an external, do you keep it plugged in at all times? I've been just leaving mine plugged in and it only turns off when the computer is off. Just curious if that poses any risks to the HDD itself. Thanks for any help.

I try not to keep mine plugged in to the computer, just because mine doesn't like to boot with it pugged in. I don't think it'll hurt it.

Whenever I use it, I leave it plugged in, mostly because I forget about it. Only time it isn't there is when I've gone to a computer that isn't mine with the drive, then brought it back, then it only gets plugged in again when I go to use it

im sure its not a problem but if you really want to be precautious for the long longggg run, then only turn it off when you need to use it then I suppose it will save any unneccesary movements or use.

If you go for the lazy option leave that beast in!
