External HDD

USB2, Would it be a slower transfer rate over an internal SATA II?

If I got one, is it best to have Windows and applications / games on the internal.

And all music and photos on the external?

Thanks.

Hey Shane,

Nah, I'd get an external one, it's mainly for MP3's, Work and Photographs, I'd have everything else on the 120GB SATA II one... :)

Thanks for the suggestion though!

You can install stuff on it if you want, just make sure it stays mapped to the same drive letter or the software might not work.

If it's copying large files it will take quite a bit longer than in internal but as TOO said, small files move pretty fast.

Is the hard drive going walk about to places???? or just going to sit next to your computer???

I was actually going to ask that.
If I put all my photos and music on there, how do I link it to 'My Documents'?

It'll just be sitting next to my computer.

1. - To link it put a shortcut in :P or create a Briefcase. The Briefcase syncs My Documents on the Computer and the Briefcase on the hard drive.

2. - Buy an internal drive because you will where out the drive and it will be slow via USB.. so buy a SATA one - If your mobo will take it.

Ah, Yeah, I can change it, That's cool! :)

I'll probably get an external, it's for music and pictures... Everything else will be installed on the main 120GB.

I just checked, and all my Pictures and Music is only 10GB, with means that everything else must be installed stuff

Not good!

If you want to take storage with you and use it on other computers and plan to take it with you a lot, then I would get a 2.5" external (like the WD Passport) It's more expensive but it's worth! (Granted I got mine for just $50 NIB) I have a 120GB WD Passport and it's awesome! No hassle with AC adapters or huge 3.5" externals.

I put all my music, photos, game files, backups, and standalone apps on my external. It totals about 30 or 40GB. It frees up a lot of space on my internal.

Just get an internal!! They are cheap and if you wanted to use it as an external then just get a IDE/sata to usb adapter and you could use the drive as an external. Internal drives are way more cost efficient! I got a 750gb for $130. I now have over 1tb of hdd space b/c my stock hdd is 320gb!

So you have stuff installed on it?
Does it load them fine, I mean, like not slow?
