external hdd

im thinking of taking out the hdd in my old desktop and use it as an external one. what must i purchase or configure in order for it to work as an usb hdd? thanks!

You will have to get the case which the hd goes inside of.. and that converts it to usb.. (bad description)

what i did was i bought one of those above, i took out the controller part of it because i wanted to be able to quickly switch out hard drives. Its very easy to come out, and it converts USB to IDE or USB to SATA.

Just make sure you get a 3.5" enclosure, not a 2.5" enclosure in that link (unless you put a laptop HDD in your desktop). Other than that it's just a matter of putting it in the enclosure; no configuration needed.

so your saying get a 3.5" enclosure for a desktop hdd and 2.5" for a laptop hdd?
