External SSDs through USB 2.0 compared to HDDs?

Hi I've got a computer with only USB 2.0 ports, and am using internal and external HDDS, if I got an external SSD (backwards compatible to USB 2.0) would there likely to be any spoeed improvment over the internal HDD? or the external HHD.

Not really, the access time would be lower but you're limited to like 35-40 MB/sec in real transfer performance, so you wouldn't notice a difference when just moving files around.

Significantly slower than a device on a SATA interface.

Yeah, look into a nice USB 3.2 Gen2 PCIe add in card and external HDD adaptor if you want to increase transfer rates.
