External USB Hard drive booting issues.

I have recently purchased an external hard drive. I am running XP and have two other hard drives in my tower. I plugged in the new external (USB) and had windows install the drivers and software. The hard drive works fine when the computer is running.

My only problem is that when the external is on and i reboot my computer, windows will hang on the screen where it displays information on my drives. The computer will not boot when this hard drive is on. :confused: If i turn off the drive and manually restart my computer it will boot. I would like to be able to not have to turn my external on and off all the time. If anyone can possibly help me or advise me on things i could try i would really appreciate it.
 
Try checking your bios and disabling usb on boot if your computer is seeing this it might think its a boot drive and be trying to boot to it i have had this issue in the past.

I cannot find where this is in setup. I went into setup and my 1st boot device is IDE 2nd is Floppy and my 3rd is CDrom.

Unfortunately i didn't recieve a manual with the product.
 
I was thinking about updating my BIOS but I am somewhat scared to run into problems, and i dont know if that will allow me to disable usb on boot.

this is the link to a bios upgrade for my motherboard of which is an ECS K7S5A version 1.0

On the ECS website there is no option for a version 1.0 - There is only 1.1 and up. This is part of the reason i am sketchy on updating my BIOS
