hi u guys wats up im new and i really need some suggestions. my old computer crashed last wednesday and we had to buy a new one on friday...we took the hard drive off the old computer so nothing we had on it got lost, my question is can i put all the info on the old hard drive to the new hard drive without having to install it inside the computer or do i have to open my computer and plug everything in to get wat i want?

You should connect the old hard drive to your new computer(this means you have to open the computer case and connect the hard disk power cable and data cable).Power on,and copy your old files to the new hard drive.

There are two ways you can copy files off of the old drive onto the new one. The choice of installing the old drive as a slave to the new drive means connecting it to the center connector on the ide cable and setting the jumper to the slave position. If you don't see the drive right off in Windows try the cable select position.

Many use an external usb drive adapter where you place the old drive into that and simply plug the drive into a usb port to copy files by that means. For the advanced user the option of copying files from a drive that is otherwise not available in Windows on the host drive is to use a live version of Linux where you simply boot from a cd with a self contained OS there. Knoppix is often the favored there.
