extremely annoying trouble

ok...my friend has an inspiron 600m. recently, it hasnt been loading properly. in fact, it hasnt really been loading at all. the best i could do was go into msconfig and boot it up in safe mode, but lots of things dont startup like sound, and i dont want to have to manually do that everytime the cimputer gets started up. what happens when i try to boot it normally is that it will start to load for about 20 seconds, then nothing happens, and i cant even click on anything. so i go into task manager, processes, and i see that the system idle is almost at 100 percent all the time! yet nothing is even loaded at this point. there is some strange file i saw where you can choose manually which programs run when you start up, and i think it hasnt something to do with the problem. ill get the name of it later. if anybody could help me it would be extremely appreciated! thanks
 
yeah get the name of that program. Or go into the computer in safe mode, then go to start, then go to Run..., type msconfig, go to the startup tab and check out all the weird stuff, Apply, restart in regular mode.
 
You might want to download and run hijackthis... it sounds like you might have some malware causing the problem.
 
yea, ok, ill try some stuff. the only problem is ive only been able to use the computer so far if i have everything disabled...which is a lot of stuff...and i havent done anything at this point, but with so much stuff disabled i hope ill be able to take the necessary steps to find out what the deal is and fix it.
 
if it's glitching badly in safemode as well then you're probably better off doeing a fresh reformat and install....make sure you get yourself some virus protection before you download anything else too
