eye infinity

yo john is a 6970 or 5950 strong enough for me to push eyefinity?

For some games yes others no. Just or fun I tried to run BFBC2 2 monitors (just to try it out :D) in eyefinity off of my 6950 and my frames were in the 30s on 2 monitors. I doubt it would be playable on 3 without turning down the settings. Games that are less demanding will be fine with a single card. What are you playing?

For an eyefinity setup I would recommend dual cards. Preferably cards that have more than 1gb of RAM.

the most demanding game ive been playing is BF3 with my 4850 x2. I want another card thats x2 so i won't have to deal with xfire.

that sucks cause those cards are like 600-700 dollars. i think my 4850x2 was like 400 2 years ago.

should i get a 5000 series card even though the 6000 series is out and the 7000 ones are about to be released?

Up to you really. That is about the lowest that you are going to find a dual GPU card for. They don't really go down in price much.

I forgot that the 6950 came down in price since I bought mine. I know you mentioned that you did not want to crossfire but it would be the best performance for the prince IMO.

Get 2 of these for a bit over $500:

Or 2 of these if you want to SLI

this 4850 x2 has done well so for the past two years so i decided to stay with amd, those 6950s do look nice. i think i just wanted to stay away from xfire to avoid complications that i have seen on eyefinity forums. it seems as though when they are combined on the same card there are less problems.

maybe i should start a new thread instead of highjacking this guys. I have a lot of questions such. like is the rest of my computer okay for me to just upgrade the gpu, and stuff.
and ive got one of these already http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052 should i just grab 2 more of these. the bezel seems a little thick though idk.

Wow I didn't even notice that you weren't the OP on this thread. Yes create your own and I'll help you there. Maybe a moderator can take off the posts that had to do with your questions. Wish I would have noticed that earlier :o

Sorry to commp and johnb35 for completely stealing the thread!

Thanks John

The crossfire troubles can happen with x2 cards as well. It is 2 cards that are crossfired on one circuit board if I understand that correctly. They can get some of the same bugs that happen with regular crossfire or sli setups. remember, for all the people that are complaining about the bugs that the drivers have there are more that hooked them up and have been playing happily for months. They just don't post about it.

The monitor that you linked looks fine for an eyefinity setup. Even though the bezels are kinda large you will get used to it. You will be focused on the center screen anyway.

alright thats true, imma go ahead and get two more of these monitors then. before i get new gpu's is the rest of my computer alright or is that out of date as well?

I have no idea what CPU you are running and if you are looking to CF 2 6950 I would get a beefier PSU. You might be ok on the 700w but I would rather go for 800+ for OC headroom on both GPUs and the CPU.

@Sdot, i think x2 cards have more inherant problems than actual crossfire.

I had a host of problems with my old 3870x2. It was old but from what i hear the x2 cards can still have problems especially with older games,

As an example, i couldn't play modern warfare 2 due to microstutter, or fallout 3. Crysis 1 and 2 had problems with the sky flashing and such.

I would go with which ever is cheaper in terms of crossfire/x2 card as people report issues like this on both cards. From what i understand its usually on extremely old games, or brand new ones that haven't been patched.

for 2 6950's, the psu should be fine, although the brand isn't the best, but comparing it to others as long as it can pull it the 2 25 amp rails should be fine since other similar 700w from better brands use between 46-56 amps on a single rail.
