Hi. For the last few years i've been having problems with sending messages on facebook. For some friends the messages wont send at all and i cant receive any messages from them, for others it occasionly wont send or receive any messages. I've tried using internet explorer, firefox, safari, chrome and a visual basic browser, but none have worked. I've got a very good internet connection but i am having problems with my router getting DDOS'ed by my computer, then turning my internet off briefly. Any help?

Thanks.

Have you tried reinstalling windows on your system? Sounds more like a facebook issue though, not your pc. Do you have another pc to try?

If you have reinstalled windows, then it has to be a facebook issue on your specific account. You might want to try making a new account to see if messages can be sent and received and if so then you'll have to use the new account.

Ive made a second account a few month back and even that one has the same problems. One thing i was thinking may be the cause: My router has been recording loads of DOS attacks but all coming from my computer at random times everyday, this has been happening for months since we changed all the routers for wireless. Could my router be thinking the outgoing facebook messages are a DOS, and then it stops it from been sent?

What router do you have? Try doing a hard reset on it to get it back to factory defaults and see if that helps.

Belkin F6D4230. I did a hard reset roughly 3 week ago but i cant do it now because we have a CCTV attached. I have checked the security log, all the Dos attacks today from my computers matches the times i sent facebook messages.

Without me ooking at the manual, is there a way to list exceptions to allow things to go through?

It doesnt look like it without reading the manual. We bought it because it was very secure and highly reccomended. Ill read the manual in the morning and see what happens.

Belkin routers aren't recommended too often. Most i've seen have issues. I would go with a linksys or Dlink, even some netgears are crappy.

I still cant send messages from my mobile or ipod. The router manual only talks about port forwarding briefly. And doesnt explain why it reports outgoing facebook messages as DOS attacks.

Is there anyway you can try using a different router just to test? I'll try doing some research on that router.

After a quick search, it seems facebook uses port 1919 to send/receive messages. You might want to try port forwarding that in your router. Or contact facebook for more help, but in my opinion, I would get a different router or at least do a hard reset to set it back factory defaults and see if that helps.

I did a hard reset this morning and reset all settings. We have 3 routers connected to the one main Belkin router, 1 netgear WGR614V9 and 2 edimax. When i port forward to my current ip 192.168.1.3 after i reboot or get disconnected from the internet it changes to something different. We have 18 devices that connect to the computer and work fine except my pc.

Are you using the routers to extend your wireless or just be able to connect more systems to your network? If just to add more systems then you should have used switches instead. Now this could be a network setup issue, not sure. Since you have other routers available, take the belkin out of the picture and use one of the other ones as the main router and see if the issue continues.

The belkin is connected straight to the modem, this then gives wifi to our lounge. There is then a switchbox splitting the internet 4 ways. I have a router in my annex for wifi and as a splitter for my internet cable connected devices. We have another 2 routers upstairs which give out wifi but also are used as a splitter for my pcs. We used to own a netgear n300 but that became faulty so we got the belkin, but even the netgear wouldnt let me use facebook.

Do you have dhcp turned off on all the routers except for the belkin? The belkin is the only one that needs to have dhcp on and all other routers needs to have a different internal ip address then the belkin. So you aren't connected directly to the belkin, you are connected to a different router after the belkin? What about the modem? What model of modem is it?

Yes dhcp is turned off on everything other than the belkin. I dont know what the modem is because it was issued by virgin media, the netgear router is also the virgin media version.

Not sure whats going on. I'm lost now. I would think its a setup issue somewhere. As a last ditch here, remove the belkin, connect a different router to the modem and only have that in place, leave other routers disconnected and try facebook. If it still doesn't send then I would assume its either an isp or modem issue.
