Failed Cleaning Attempt

Recently I decided to clean out my pc. Took it outside sprayed the whole thing down. But for some reason I decided to unlock the processor fan. I think I was trying to get a dustbunny. Well stupid me forgot to re-lock the fan down and I booted my PC. Nothing. The PC powers up but I get no beeps and no display.

Anyone know what the problem is? Did I fry my processor with my recklessness? Or did something happen to the mobo? Or is all good and I just am missing something silly?

Did you take off just the fan or the whole heatsink? It probably overheated right away and shut off. I would reapply the thermal paste and heatsink/fan.

just the fan, but i blew it out with a computer duster before it was locked into place. Already tried reapplying thermal paste and all that. No go.

try this:

1. unplug from power
2. keep one hand/arm touching the case, and remove all ram sticks
3. once ram is removed, hold power button for 20s (still unplugged from power)
4. reinstall ram sticks, plug into power and see if it boots.

sometimes its just leftover power or a small amount of static on the board somewhere, doing this will clear all power from the system. ive seen these steps solve many problems like yours

also, double check your video connection, are you plugged into a dedicated card or the onboard? sounds stupid but sometimes when you're in a rush you plug your video on the wrong connector

No go. Tried exactly what you said. No light on power button. (there used to be when it was working correctly.) Any other advice? I'm about to take it to bestbuy only because I dont have the spare parts around to figure out what is wrong with it.

Don't take it, they'll gouge you for everything you're worth. We can help you just as easily and it is unlikely to cost you anything :) Here's what I would do:

1) Take all hardware out of the case and place it on a bench. Assemble the system there. Re-check all power/data connectors.
2) See if it boots.
3) If not, remove all un-necessary hardware, ie one ram stick, no HDD, no add in cards, onboard video
4) see if it boots.

If all else fails, try reseating all the hardware and just checking all the cables are in right.
