That would be hilarious if they really were worth that much someday. Newegg would be wishing that they asked for returns when they sent our replacements of real Core i7s. :D

Wow, the jerks that did this I'm sure are going to make a ton of money. You could sell Core i7 processors easily for $200 a pop presently. But I believe in a Judgment Day though. If they aren't caught in this life they certainly will be in the next.

Very true words there. Can't escape God's eye :P

I thought it was Sauron's eye you could not escape?

Anyway, it sounds to me like some demo units, used for display purposes got sold as actual units. If there is any foul play involved it will be revealed when the lawsuits hit. it seems Newegg is not at fault but is taking care of their customers.

Those were not demo units... fake box with many typos, poor hologram, fake factory sealed sticker (the words were printed on the box underneath the clear sticker), user manual that is just a stack of paper stapled together, fake heatsink, fan that is just a sticker, poor quality internal plastic packaging, fake cpu.

You might argue a solid plasitic heatsink/fan and fake processor could be a demo unit, but demo units would not feature this extensive packaging. And even a demo box would not have that many typos/spacing errors. Also, what's the point of trying to fake a "factory sealed" sticker on a demo unit?

Definitely not demo units, but counterfeit ones.

Intel has confirmed these are not demo units, demo units would not be weighted boxes, nor would they have fake "genuine" printed onto the box, fake holograms, nor would they have barcodes or such. Not to mention, around 300 processors were counterfeits.

Wow, 300 CPUs.... I was thinking more along the lines of about.....5, lol. :D

Doesn't seem like something they could have dreamed of getting away with considering how badly "replicated" it is. Maybe they were paid to try to hurt newegg's reputation?

Interesting.

I thought this thread was a joke - and just noticed TechReport - was showing Newegg did in fact get spoofed with some fake CPU's.

NOT COOL

Well, i have already said multiple times,so for future reference to everyone.

INTEL HAS CONFIRMED THESE ARE COUNTERFEIT PROCESSORS.

Intel would not make a packaging mockup with multiple typo's, fake genuine stickers(they already have genuine stickers they use on all their other cpu's, all they would need to to grab a few of those if these were mockups), plus packaging mockups would not have such poorly faked heatsink and "cpu", plus the fake "users manual" is nothing but a few sheets of paper stapled together.

I edited the first post with more information.

Also, it should now be more obvious from the initial post that these are counterfeits. That should take care of that issue, bomberboysk. :)
