Hi,

I got a photo from my friend and i suspect that this photo is fake. How can i check whether it is fake or not? Is there any information hidden inside the file that can tell me what kind of changes had been made with the photo? The file is in jpeg format.

Thank you in advance!

I guess the only way is to show us, if you want.. Some stuff is obvious to people who Photoshop a lot.

Up to you..

OK, there is no way to understand whether it has been modified or not because the quality of the image was lowered. I wonder about any kind of information, or maybe log file, i do not know how to call it, inside the image that can tell me what has been modified in the image. Is there such an information/file inside the photo file itself? JPEG format

Thanks again!

There's EXIF info that come with a jpeg file (Do a google search for a free program that will show you), but if it doesn't contain one it's more than likely been edited. If it has one it still might have been edited, but the best way to tell if a picture has been edited if there's pixels in the picture that are out of place, blurry spots, something not align right, different shades of color, color that abruptly stops.

Honestly, like g4 said, we have some editing pro's on here that can tell u if it is a fake. post the pic up, with the resolution u recieved it in, and then someone can tell u.

What do you mean is it fake... you don't know how your friends look like? Or is this some kinda "making buddies over the interwebtz" type of thingy? In that case, I'd just ask for a new photo/picture, it's not like that could hurt, and possibly as one that's of better quality... if (s?)he keeps sending low-quality pics or pictures that appear to have been edited, I'd just block him/her or something, or at least ask what's really going on, I'mean that kinda behavior is suspicious... just coz you ain't paranoid doesn't mean everyone isn't out there to get you, and "sticks and stones may break my bones but words over the internet don't do shit".

Well, it's not always right the pic can have poor quality and it doesnt mean it was edited... I got some original pictures that the some of the pixels are out of place but it's real it's not edited...

I should have clarify...many pixels out of place (out of alignment)...doing a poor quality picture could also suggest an edited picture (not necessary though) specially if a person says "Hey Look at this picture it's cool".

Example :

Unedited Picture

Suggest that it's been edited but look over closely and you can see it's not

Real Quick Look suggest real, but look closely and longer you can tell it's a fake.

I'm not calling myself a professional photoshopper, but I make my photos really convincing, and I make sure all those things you listed are believable.

But that's just me.
