fan about to go?

I have a 4 year old Systemax desktop. For the past few months, upon startup the bottom fan (there are, two, right?) makes a strong buzzing noise on occasion. If I whack it directly over the grill, it stops. This is happening more frequently. This morning, it kept resuming the noise after I whacked it. Finally was OK after awhile. I possibly noticed that before whacking it, it was kind of warm...maybe it WASN't going, even though the noise was coming from it? I was going to take off the case to see if there is something in there..but can anybody give me any hints? And if I have to replace this, what do you call it? For the heck of it I went to NewEgg and typed in "Computer Fan" and all the results seemed to be the upper one, not the lower one.
Thanks.

It might be getting worn out, I know I had this problem before. Luckily, fans don't cost too much and they are easy to replace. As far as why its making that noise, might be hitting a cable or something. If not, here's Newegg's site with fans. They are called case fans btw.

There are thousands of different fans. Just make sure you know the size of it before you buy one. Check how many millimeters that fan is and just buy one the same size.

You could dust it out with canned air and make sure no hair or anything is getting tangled in the fan.

Another thing you could do it grease the fan. Take the fan off and take the sticker halfway off. In the middle, there should be a rubber plug. Remove this with a pin or something small if it doesn't come off with the sticker. Take some 3-1 household oil and place one drop in the hole. Replace the rubber plug and put the sticker back, and screw the fan back in.

This solved a fan problem I've had for years.

Thanks for the suggestions..I just ordered a new fan, but will try the oil before I put in the new one..what is 3-1 household oil? Any brand name?

I think that's just 3 in 1 household oil. Its probably just a multi-application oil that you can use on anything.

That is the brand name. Basically its a just a general purpose oil.
