I've always been a bit curious about this... If you have a dirty fan, could you clean it in water and it still work. I say yes, it should work fine. Anyone say it won't?

Haha, I've yet to try this fan again, just waiting untill I'm sure it's nice and dry.

I'll try some other things later for fun if I have some older parts that I know arent worth selling ;)
 
Im sure it will work, since the water will just dry up. Unless you have a high mineral content in your water, especially iron.
 
well, i have lots of iron (well waters), but if i rinse it off with purified water, it should work, right?
 
Yeah, I've heard water rarely hurts anything as long as you don't try and send electricity though it when it's wet. Heck I heard of a story where someone dropped their PDA in the toliet and it still worked!
 
Most electronic's will be fine in water as long as it's not turned on, that fan(as long as the connecters were sleaed) would prabally be fine even if it WAS on, it would just be messy :P
 
When i was younger i took a fan kit, which consisted of 2x AA batteries, a small motor, and some plastic propellers, and i submerged it in the bath tub and it worked for at least 20 minutes! I also held my old cellphone under water for a while and it still worked... but eventually the display got screwed up.

lol...this reminds me of the post about the guy who pleasured himself next to his graphics card and got it all over the heatsink.

I wonder what would happen if you dipped your entire computer into a tub full of water...and then took it out after a few minutes and leave it to try outside for a week or so (of course assuming that it won't rain). It would clean out your computer quite well..even in the little corners.
 
If the water is pure, it really shouldn't hurt anything. Water doesn't conduct electricty, it's just the crap in it that does...

Dont think that would work, since when the minerals dry up it may leave conductive minerals on it and cause certain parts to shor circuit. Although if you used distilled water nothing should happen to it.
 
make sure its dry, the slightest moisture can screw electronics up.

EDIT: If you want to submerge your PC....go right ahead, video tape it too!!! I wanna see what happens when you turn it on.

This reminds me of the time i spilled bottled water onto my z-5300's remote control. It was on and when it spilled, it still looked fine, however after a few minutes it started not working and then alot of random lights were on. Even after the water was dry it did it for a while, so be careful with complex electronics.

yea, water itself wont hurt electronics at all, you could throw your computer in a tub and take it out, BUT it has to be dry when you turn it on and you cant let it rust.
 
I beleive water will her some electronics. Things that hold electricty for a while. Notice most things are damaged by water WHEN ON. Thus, if you have a capacitor or something, I feel quite sure it would short out.

Now, if you had pure water, you should be fine either way :P

Very true, like throwing a monitor or PSU in water will ruin it.

And technically you could put a computer in distilled water and run it, but the thing is, all of your computer parts would have "stuff" on it, so it wouldnt actually be distilled water.
