I have a HP Slimline that sounds like a tractor! I know these PC's are crap (I was given it for free) but I really don't think they all sound like this!
It has an Intel Pentium E2140 (Conroe) @ 1.6ghz (pretty amazing right? ) with an LGA 775 socket.
It doesn't seem to be overheating very much the CPU temp stays under 45°C with XBMC running (what I mainly use it for), the max fan RPM is 1664 (I don't know if that's particularly high or not).
Inside the PC, there are four screws screwed into the motherboard around the CPU and the fan is just placed on top of the CPU with those four screws lining up with four corresponding holes on the fan. You can literally just lift the fan off! That doesn't seem right to me.
It seems to me that it is the CPU fan to me however that's just a presumption. If it is would a replacement fan do the job? If so could you suggest one?
