After up grading my video card from a ATI Radeon 300 series to a ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB PCI-E I notice my system is running a bit hotter, and the fan is constantly on. Can somebody explain to me why it is running like this, and what solutions I have to deal with this problem.

Thanks

I have an MSI version of the same card, my heatsink temps are in the low to mid 30's under a heavy load, that's not all too bad. The fan will probably always be on, mine is. I don't understand how this is a problem though.

Because unlike your other miniscule card, ur new 800' is running faster and hotter to crank our those fps rates... wait are u talking about ur fan being on when it's idling?

Well before I upgraded the video card, I never noticed the fan on..I could never hear it. after I upgraded it all I hear is the fan all day, all night...like it never turns off.

I thought I read somewhere about upgrading my power supply, because my current power supply is the minimum requirement recommended for the card ,meaning its drawing alot of current, and running hotter. I forgot where I read that, and if I even read it correctly. would anybody know anything about that? or am I totally wrong on that?

well with that new video card it must be running hotter and ur one fan prob cant circulate enough air, most cases have an extra hole that u can add an extra fan too it so try that, or mounting a different heatsink to ur new card, im not sure where to get the directions for mounting a new heatsink, but i hear its pretty easy and im sure one of the mods will help ya out if ur gonna go through with it

I just reread my manual. Its says it needs a 350w or greater power supply, and my computer has a 300w power supply. is that the problem? I also noticed when I play the game fear at maxium video performance it lags out alot...will getting a better power supply unit fix both the running hot issue, and the lagging issue?

thanks
