As the OP states he knows little about computers I think we can assume its likely he wouldn't know the manufacturing differences between ssd's and hdd's, and in turn wouldn't know one had moving parts and the other did, not that's the be all and end all when it comes to reliability in general. As far as i remember early ssd's were pretty bad when it came to reliability, but I haven't seen any statistical data comparing them to hdd's of the time, but for sure ssd's are more reliable now.
