Fan problem, please help

so i turn on my computer and windows starts but then a screen pops up and says that windows has to shut down to avoid damage to the computer. So it restarts itself and then repeats this stage over and over until it starts to over heat and shuts down. I looked in the BIOS and the top temperature that i recorded was 125 degrees F. I later discovered that the system fan is not running. i was wondering if anybody knew how to get it back running.

damnn real hot, make sure the wires in all the way, on the mobo, if they are, the fan might be shot.

Are you sure it was 125 degrees Fahrenheit and not Celsius? Because 125F is only about 52C which really isnt that hot at all for a cpu depending on your system. If your fan isnt running see if you can take apart and clean it. If you dont want to take it off, try spraying some compressed air in there to clean it out. Most likely the fan is dead and youll need to replace it.

You can do all kinds of things to diagnos the fan and what not, but my suggestion, find another fan and replace it. Perhaps first test the header on the motherboard just to be sure it's working(they are typically 3pin) If you have a case fan that connects the same way, just plug it in there and see if it's powered. If the plug's bad, just use another header or maybe get a fan for a molex addaptor(the 4 pin plugs for CD ROMs and such)

has 2 be Celcius.
Not really, as said before(not by you) that 125F isn't that hot and its about 52C, although this would not make the system shutdown due to heat, if there was a shutdown tempature threashold it would certainlly be below 125C, and not to mentoin even without a fan, as long as it had a heatsink 52C would make perfect sence for just being in the bios.

When you say your fan is not working, do you mean the Case/chasis can or the CPU fan?(on top of the heatsink on the CPU)

Make sure the heatsink is clean(blow it out, can of ait works great) and make sure the fan is pluged in correctly to your motherboard, If the fan still does not spin then I would suggest just buying a new fan.

thats for the advice, i'm going to go replace it on saturday, i'm pretty sure it was 125 F because it showed the F and C degrees. C was about 51 degrees.

There's no way it was 125 Degrees Celsius. If it were his CPU would be burned to ashes, and if his PC is still starting then that not the case. As about the fan, I would try to get a new one and see if that works. If it doesnt work, then you have a power issue.

ahh well i got almost the same problem, exept my computer is just turning off without a warning, and im sure my fan is working... its pretty hot in my room sometimes, but still. anyone got a tip, maybe how to turn the fan to work harder? :)
