Fan speed controller

My case came with a fanspeed controller and there are 4- 4 pin power connectors that have both male and female parts for the four fan knobs. Also, it came with two female power connectors which I just need to put some power into. I want to kno how i should connect the connectors. Should I connect them through the female or male connectors? or what?
 
I think what you need to do is plug one end into the power connector, and one into the fan connector. It should only work one way.
Like this (F for Female, M for Male).

Fan------F M----Fan Controller---F M---Power Source

Start from the fan controller and work outwards: power should be coming from the female connector
