FAN speed

I have an E6550 Intel with an Elitegroup motherboard and in the BOIS "PC Health statis" for the fan speed they have
CPU smart fan control Enabled
Target Temp Value 060
Tolerance Value 03
Start up Value 150
Sto Value 100
Stoptime Value 060
I can change these values but I don't know what they mean because my fan is too loud because I had to put a new one on. Does anyone know how I can turn the speed down?

If it's spinning too much it's because it detects that it's hot. Can you check your CPU temperatures in anyway. Also see if the CPU fan has any dust in it. How's the airflow in your case. How many fans?

Spray compressed air into the fan to remove any dust. It's spinning fast because the CPU is running hot.

I blew it out a couple of days ago so there isn't any dust.
System Tempeature 28C/100F
CPU Tempeature 76C/170F
Fan Speed 2500 RPM
I have 2 120mm and 1 140mm fans and will put on another 120mm fan tomorrow
I can adjust but don't know how and the manual is vage about it.

Man that CPU is running hot! My CPU's Max temp has been 60C. Have you cleaned the CPU's heatsink. They collect a ton of dust.

When you replaced the fan/heatsink (assuming I read your post right) did you clean the old thermal paste off and reapply new?

If your CPU is 75 degrees you don't want to slow the fan down.

I downloaded a program called "Core Temp" on both of my computers to see how hot the CPU is running. It gives to temp. on each core. Each core is running about the same temp. My Intel E6550 dual core is running at around 125 degreesF and my AMD 955 Quad is running at 96F so is my E6550 too Hot? Why did my BIOS tell my 170F on my E6550 which is a 4 year old computer.

might want to remove the heatsink, clean the goop off and add new goop, the old stuff may have turned into concrete... to do it, run the machine a little while, turn it off, and while the heatsink is still warm, pop the pushpins and twist the fan till the goop breaks free, clean it with 91 percent alcohol and add new thermal compound. i have the same problem with a system at work, its a p4 2.8ghz chip but i cant replace the goop on it. i think i actually have the same board you do, the smart fan settings sound the same...sucker spins up really fast when it gets loaded

sounds like the cpu is deffs to hot!!
try buying new thermal paste, cleaning the heatsink
but make sure you remove all of the old thermal paste, :)
