Say if you ran your cpu fan at full power all of the time would this decrease the life of the fan?

Cheers

Yes

TO me it would sound logical to say that the faster it runs, the faster it will go wrong due to wear and other factors. However, I believe that the difference in useful life of the fan would be negligible.

In a normal mechanical fashion prolly but the thing thats "moving" the blades is a magnet so its not like a 'traditional' mechanical device. It prolly will decrease the lifespan but by something so insignficiant its not worth considering :)

yeah, ive never heard a case of "my fan stopped working because of wear and tear".....now dust is a different issue :P

Just curious?

Have any of you used the fans for longer than the lifespan they were predicted? Just wondering. It would be interesting to hear.

I haven't had a fan die on me yet and I still have one from like 1993 (its in an old AST pentium 75 box). What's the rating on most fans? It's somewhere in the ballpark of 50000 hours isn't it?

Yeah ...

Well for ball bearing fans, the lifespan is 50,000 hours, while for a sleeve bearing fan, that goes down to 30,000. LOL that gives quite some time. :D
