fans/heatk sinks/ retails

Ok now, I have a problem. I need to know which hardware comes with fans and heat sinks.

Heat sinks for the processors (cpu's) are the only necessary heatsink correct?

Now I understand that retail means it comes brand new with books, wires, etc, however, which hardware retail comes with a fan/heatsink?
perhaps a list?

i.e
cpu - fan / no heatsink
mobo - fan / no heatsink
hdd - no fans or heatsink
etc....

Now can someone list what hardware piece would need fans or a heatsink?

i.e
cpu - fan/heat sink
mobo - fan / heat sink not necessary
hdd - fan / heat sink not necessary
etc....


Btw, I guessed the examples so I'm sure I'm wrong.

A retail CPU will come with a fan. They usually work fine for stock speeds, but if you want to overclock the CPU then you need to use a after market fan.

Most of the newer video cards come with fans, and if they don't then the manufacture has determined that it will work fine with whatever fans you have in your case.

Computer cases usually come with 1 or more fans. It depends on what the manufacture wants to include. 2 or 3 fans is usually the minimum fans you want in a case.

Any other fans you will most likely need to supply for yourself.

Usually the chipsets on the motherboards do not need fans, but if you are going to overclock, then there are fans you can buy to replace the stock heatsinks.
 
so the cpu/videocard/mobo is the only hardware that comes with fans in retails?
So sound cards, memory, and hdd don't come with any? Does the sound card or memory or hdd need fans? or is it fine?

Are all oem's new? or are some of them used?
 
Oem's are just basic parts, no extra's or frills. They are new parts.

You only need fans for your motherboard chipsets if you are going to over clock, and then watercooling would be the best way to cool them down. The same with memory.

Soundcards do not need fans or cooling.
 
Also besides the hd and video card, nothing really needs a fan except the cpu, and mobo if it's oc.

Correct?

1 last thing is, are there fans/heatsinks for all parts (hardware)????
 
If your case has a place for a fan in front of your hard drives, great. If not, it's really no big deal.

I have never been one of those that thinks it's necessary.

If you make sure the case you get has at least 2 fans (more are better) then you should be fine, as long as you are careful about how you run all of your cables. You do not want to block the air flow through the case.
 
Generally only components that use a lot of energy have heatsinks, HDD's don't because there isn't a lot of energy transfer but CPU's do because of the amount of energy that is transferred across them is quite a lot.
