Fans:pushing and pulling how?

Hey yal,
I have a question, how do you make a fan push or pull air. I have a CM 690 and I want the fans on the top of the case to pull the air out. Is there a way I mount it or does it say on the specs. Your help would be appericated.

Thanks 5.0

Guys,
Okay so on the fan it should say which direction the air will flow or what? Because my case is designed to pull cold air from the bottom and then have all the hot air go out the top (since hot air rises this was the most effective thing they thought of doing, and its a good idea). Or is it a trial by error kinda thing.
Thanks, 5.0

some fans will be labeled for air flow direction, but most are not. like you said, its more of a trial and error thing

Cleric 7x9,
Alright ill go ahead and buy the fans and then have the trial by error.

Do you not have fans in it already?

Here's a picture I found, showing how the fans are moving the air;

I'd maybe change the top right fan to another exhaust. You could always experiment with it and see which works best for you. I'd use something very similar to the picture though.

Usually, the side with the label/logo is the direction the fan blows.

I would make both of the top fans exhaust.

Kornowiski,
I don't have the fans in it. I was planning on running down to fry's a little later and buy the fans. I read on another forum that there's another place you can put a fan on the case, behind the CPU on the other side, but you need a 80x80x15 fan. Do they make them that small?

Thanks, 5.0

PS, I was gonna make the too tops fans exhaust because I thought that it would also be better in keeping the system cool, because hot air rises and it would be a straight shot to the top.

Yeah, there's a place around the back for an 80mm fan, which like you said, is smaller. Yeah, they make 'em. I don't think it'd help an awful lot though.

Keeping the top two exhuast does sound the better idea. Keep all the intakes near the front / bottom and all the exhausts near the top / back.

How many fans are you getting?

I currently have four going. Front and side are intake, top and rear are exhaust (I only have one on top for now). If I got another fan, I'd make it another top exhaust.

I wouldn't put one on the bottom, just because it could pull in dust from the carpet. But if you want to have max fans, go for it.

80x80x15 fans are hard to find, and in general, don't have great CFM. I would only recommend doing this if you're having CPU temp problems. If you have a decent cooler, it shouldn't be necessary.
