Farcry

I have farcry (full version, not demo) and it is lagging a bit. with my specs it should run ok. I've tried it on low quality but it still has a problem when large objects like helicopters appear.

well thats pretty general. what are your specs??? and are they at stock or overclocked or what??? it is most likely just your video card if it is a lag problem and you have low fps. try closing any background apps you have running and give farcry as much memory usage as possible. thats all the advice i can give without knowing your actual hardware. possibly update all drivers and see if you might need a patch for farcry game.

I have a Radeon 9200, An Athlon Xp 3000+. I tried altering the quality of certain things an it made a slight difference. Someone said that if i uninstall a few other games. It can make the games left run faster. Is there any truth in that?

thats only if ur hd if being maxed out. the REAL problem is ur vid card. i have the same card. it cant handle farcry believe me. its a pretty old car. while uninstalling games of ur hd might give u more room...it wont give you better performance unless your using more than like 80% of ur space already. my games dont make any difference running/performance wise if i have 1 or up to 10 installed...cuz it still uses less than half my drive with all 10. you can try though..maybe it needs a defrag...that always helps. u should do that once a month at least.

Farcry must require some serious specs then cos my computer's not that old

not that old? you can still buy a computer at the store and 1 min later a game will come out that it cant play. thats why i never buy retail computers lol. cuz u have things you cant do to it, like disabled BIOS features, you can void warranty, and if you dont know how to fix something you have to $$$$ to get it done. some of the things they put in those computers can ONLY be fixed by the manufacturer cuz hey put certain parts together a way where if you try to tamper with it it'll fry...and you void the entire warranty. im not saying they suk (my dad has 6 HP computers in his office cuz he dont have time to build them) but i certainly would never want one personally. how about looking on the box for the recommended specs? have you done that? what are they?

try lowering your screen color depth
That, at most, will save an entire 0.5fps of performance.

I have a Radeon 9200
Bingo! That would be the "problem"

Farcry must require some serious specs then cos my computer's not that old
LMAO that's saying things lightly. These are the minimum specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 1 GHz or Pentium® III 1 GHz
RAM: 256 MB
Video Card: 64 MB DirectX® 9.0b-compatible graphics card

Now as for officially reccomended specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon 2400-3000+ or Pentium 4 2-3 GHz
RAM: 512-1024 MB
Video Card: 128 MB GeForce 4 128 MB to GeForce FX 5950; ATI Radeon 9500-9800 XT

And to be honest even with my system (even when I swap out for a 5950U) the game lags out at anything past 1280x1024 (details set to max of course). Now with details set to medium, I think that setup with the GFX5950U can push 1600x1200 but I never play with medium details.

Now for the Radeon9200 ... that's a budget card and while you can certainly play the game -- it's not gonna be pretty. Even people on the 9800 report only being able to play 1024x768 with settings ramped to max (1280x1024 on medium). To help make the game more playable for you:
- How much memory do you have? The more the better: preferably in gigabyte quantities
- Turn AA and Ansio off -- you'll be too busy hiding and getting hunted to notice
- Turn anything that says "dynamic" to low or off
- Set details to low-medium
- Set anything else to low-medium
- Drop the resolution to 800x600 or lower (fullscreen)

FarCry is quite intensive as far as graphics goes considering its got a graphical engine capable of putting shame to most hollywood calibre movies. Comapring FarCry to UT2004 (which you might be more familiar with), whereas FarCry doesnt have the same amount of activity and people/vehicles per given frame (considering most of them will be 800m+ away or hiding in bush while in UT2004 its very upclose, frantic and personal) -- the game makes up for it by at least doubling the polygonal count of a UT2004 game. Suffice it to say, in 10 minutes of FarCry (actually moving around and stuff), you'll probably go through as many polygons as 15 minutes of UT2004 (both games with details to max).

Dont forget prices in Canada are cheaper :P It's not that unreasoanble though... i had my TI4400 when i bought my second system August 26 2002 and it was the 2nd best card at the time ... just upgraded to the Ti4600 (for free actually) and it's served me well

when i first built my pc i was on integrated graphics, then i got my MX440 and used that for a year or so...and my latest card is my 9200...its not really the expensive parts that kill me...its the time it takes me to get money lol. if i could get it faster than it wouldnt be a problem. but i get payed once a month...so i just gotta wait. its kind of ok though cuz by the time i get $200 the price of the product has dropped, but then something better comes out as well and the "new" item i buy is "old"...its bittesweet lol.

its the time it takes me to get money lol
Yeah dont i know it..... brief history:
2MB ATi Mach32
4MB ATi Mach64
4MB Matrox Mystic
32MB GeForce2MX
32MB GeForce2GTS
128MB GeForce4Ti4400
128MB GeForce4Ti4600
Lots of gaps in between heehee...I'm a slow upgrader too!

i think mine went like:
4mb integrated (not sure what it was...i was n00b)
32mb TNT2 nvidia
64mb MX-440 mad-dog (great card)
64mb FIC radeon 9200

i keep my cards for a LONG time though lol...i should get my MX-440 back when i upgrade again. my dads holding it ransom lol

Ram...good
GFX...good
CPU...Meh! although your gonna upgrade it....it will still be fine

It will run it

you might wanna toss another stick of 512MB in there after the CPU upgrade.. or maybe thats just me...

Well he doesn't have to....512mb will load Farcry at a normal pace....not like my scummy 256mb takes ages to load up farcry(LEVELS) :(

ya i figurd it would work -thing is...no more memory slots on my motherboard left, and also would farcry run of full gfx settings?

Damn,, Sometime it get too expensive to keep with the upgrades on computers. I waited for about 6 years and got my Gaming/Video Editing computer about 10 months ago now.... Still one of the best computer out there...
I just want to share my experience of Far Cry,, I was able to play that game perfectly on Highest settings, and it is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played, I was amazed with the quality and the game play.. I really hope they will release the part 2 of that game...:D
