Fast Computer Died!! Repair or Replace??

I built my computer about 3 or so years ago:

ASUS A8V-E Deluxe
Athlon 64 (some where around 1.8-2.2)
2 - 512 RAM
DVD Drive
160 GB Seagate Harddrive
Nvidia Graphics Card (forget model)
M-Audio Sound Card

It has been PERFECT for years. Never any major issues. Recently it froze on a screen saver and then I had to hard boot. When I rebooted it DOES power on but LCD does not activate (does work) and there is no start up BEEP. No BIOS

I have tried:
removing and switching around RAM (no beeps)
Dust everything
Remove graphics card
Unplug and replug everything
Remove Battery

For about 6 months I would have to turn the PSU off then back on to turn the computer on (otherwise it would turn on for 1 sec n turn off).

It still turns on. Fans, DVD drive opens and i THINK harddrive works...

Is it the PSU? MOTHERBOARD OR CPU????

Im not sure if I should replace one item or just buy a new motherboard and CPU...(I use XP).

PLEASE HELP!!!!

If you receive no beeps from the motherboard when ram is removed, it's toast. Every motherboard gives beep tones when essential components are missing.

Time to go dual core! AMD AM2 systems are super cheap these days. You can get a good motherboard for around $50 and a great dual core processor for around $50. You'll probably need some ram too, which could run you $20-30. All in all, you're looking around $130 for a good upgrade.

The GPU you have is most likely AGP, but a motherboard around $50 will have integrated video you could use until you can afford a PCI Express video card. You might also want to consider a sata HDD for around $40.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can use on the new computer. So many things have changed in the past couple years with socket types, graphics card interfaces and the standard of hard drive interface.

Yep your motherboard died dude. Same thing happened to my socket 939 about a year ago. Ticked me off to no end, but hey I need to upgrade :) Get a AM2/AM2+ motherboard or Intel motherboard that can support a dual/quad core CPU, PCI Express x16 2.0 video card, DDR2 800 ram, and then you should be good to go!

never hurts to look on good old ebay, maybe you could snag a real cheap MB that is similar to help you get by well you save up more $.
