Fastest Multimedia PC

Hi everyone,

I'm a new to this board as you can see. I'm glad to join!

I'm looking for the fastest multimedia PC on the market. I'm NOT a gamer, however. By multimedia I'm talking about using the PC as a high-end video editing tool, capturing the highest quality level of sound and video without dropping a frame, DVR capabilities, etc.

I want what's fastest, most powerful PC on the market for my needs.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

If you're wanting to build one, I'd suggest getting something like the Epox...eh, they have such odd models...their model that is Nforce4 and doesn't have SLI capabilities. That, a duel core AMD, 1G RAM, WinTV PCR-150, and some video card like the Geforce 6200.

there's pretty much no way that you're going to find a media center pc for this guy's needs from either of those companies' consumer lines. if he wants to capture the highest quality sound AND video, especially without blips, then he's going to need a pretty hefty rig.

For multimedia, it would still be better to go with a dual core processor. As said above, for the best; you will need to build, as all the manufactors will have made some kind of compromise.

you can build a real sweet rig on this for under 1500 with a Pentium D 3.0GHz.
or you can go cheaper with the Pentium 4 3.2Ghz for about 1000

you would want a better video card for multi-media. Even though hes not a gamer, you want the card to be able to decode video quickly, and be able to display it in HD format. I would suggest an ATI 1xxx series that has AVIVO.

or a higher end graphics workstation card, like an ATi FireGL or an nvidia FX 4500 :D (i think it's called the fx...anyway, it's like 3 gran)

i agree with you 100%

WOW! I was not expecting this level of help...so thanks. My budget is $4,000 but that must include at least a 19" LCD flat panel.

Thanks...now that you know my budget...got any other suggestions?

Thats alot of cash... my advice would be not to spend it all, you can build a great rig for $2500.

Speaking of which though, are you going to be building or buying this rig?

I'd LUV to pay less. That gives me more $$ for other toys :) I've been saving a while so I deserve it!

I'd consider building but only if I can get help. It sounds like I building one gives you more flexibility. For instance, I go to Dell, GW, Alienware, etc I notice that things are pretty much "packaged". Sure, you can customize but only what they say you can customize.

What I may do is search this forum for which components I need and then which are the fastest, most reliable, etc.

Thanks! Let me know if you got any thoughts or can point me to some good forum posts.

After reading the info in those links it doesn't look that hard to build a computer. I think the hard part will be choosing the right processor, motherboard, etc.

I'm going to really research this. I've got time. I can't purchase any of these components for at least 4 months so now is research time.

Looks like AMD is for gaming and Intel is for general purpose. I assume if I want to do a lot of video capture, editing and rendering (no gaming) an AMD would be better than an Intel????

If you arent going to be gaming, and you were debating between an Athlon 64 and a Pentium 4, i would say go Intel.

Howver the AMD X2's are extremely nice dual-cores, and there better then most intel's at gaming and video editing.

I would go the AMD X2 route.
