fastest processors

What are the fastest processors now or the best ones? Performance wise from any company. Or could you tell me the best ones from each like Intel and AMD.
Is AMD worth it? A lot of reviews say Intel has better processors even though AMD is a bit cheaper priced.
 
I assume you just refering to Desktop??
corei7 975 is fastest cpu for desktop...

AMD - it depends of which one you're refering to.
 
Very interesting list at www.cpubenchmark.net. I wonder how accurate it is?

Edit: After reviewing the list and asking the opinion of someone else on the forum I don't think this list is real accurate. It is somewhat accurate but I would not take the face value of all the number ratings on the processors.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. It gives you a general idea where CPU's stack up, but that's about it. Performance can really vary between CPUs using different system configurations and such. Plus it's never a good idea to base a computers/CPUs performance on one application.
