Hey everyone,

I play a fair amount of StarCraft 2. Sometime is seriously wrong with it. It crashes maybe once a week on average, but sometimes more. Usually after it crashes a screen will come up telling my the instillation is corrupt and offer to run the tool to fix it. When I fix the instillation it usually works fine for another couple days. I have also tried completely reinstalling SC2 and it had about the same effect of fixing it for a couple days before the crashes started again.

Sometimes when it crashes the game will just immediately shut down, and sometimes the game will become slow and unresponsive. Sometimes it will even come back after a minute of freezing up.

I haven't had any problems with other programs or games although, to be fair, I don't play many other games very much.

The only other thing that I've had trouble with is trying to install Install VC++ Redistributable 2008.

The crashes seem independent of how long I've played and my temperatures seem alright.

I was thinking maybe my Windows 7 instillation is bad, but I'm not sure.
What do you guys think?
 
Have you checked your computer for a Zerg infestation? That's a very common problem nowadays; those Zerglings love to mess with computers. I recommend opening your case and performing an inspection. If you happen to find any Zerglings, you need to counter that immediately. Preferably some sort of air unit composition.
 
Download and run memtest. You can get the .ISO (must be burnt to a disc as a bootable disc first) from here:

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip

or you can get a version which runs off a memory stick from here:

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.usb.installer.zip

you want to boot from that and leave it running for a few hours. Leaving it to run over night wouldn't be a bad idea. If any errors come up in that time, it is almost certain that you have a fault with your memory.

If that comes up with nothing, what hard drive are you running? Is it the one in your sig (your main drive with your OS and games on)

Checked it out. There was some zerg, but he went hatch first so no worries about the zerglings.

Any other ideas?
 
Like I said, I ran memtest for about 6 hrs without errors. However I was doing some reading on a starcraft website and someone who was having a similar problem said his was fixed when he removed one stick of ram.

So I have a renewed interest in the ram. Is it possible/likely for the ram to be bad but not show errors on memtest? If so, does anyone have an idea for the most efficient way to manually test which one of three ram sticks is to blame.
