Favorite Linux

My favorite is Ubuntu-Studio which provided the easiest install and the more hardware support for my laptop. Second, would be Fedora Core 4.
 
In terms of LiveCD's, I'm a SLAX lover because I have a fetish for eye candy.

On the desktop, I use LinuxMint mainly because I like their view and direction, even if it isn't "pure" Linux. I think believing in a distro's view is important when choosing one.

Another is Fedora in general mainly because they are complete bleeding edge but also extremely stable.

And finally, Gentoo. I love the portage tree and getting that small (or sometimes huge) performance increase from compiling everything is great. They're also constantly pushing new technology.

I'm a huge "distrophile". I love to try new and obscure distros and rarely do I find one that I dislike. But major ones that I do dislike include OpenSUSE, Freespire, and Foresight.
 
I never rave about "eye candy" in that sense. I look more at fundtionality like the flexibility seen with a live distro. The one main thing that has even kept Linux alive until now while one version or another of Windows or Mac is left behind is the fact that it is an open source type OS. That has allowed for improvements like hardware dection levels seen in GParted outweighing that seen with XP's Disk Management and the installer's inability to detect sata drives by itself on many older boards without a driver floppy.
 
FEDORA all the way. i have tryed ubuntu and idn. fedora i find has everythign i need there installed. an fc8 is comming out thursday!!!!! and i have a "connection" that has a 20 20 fiber connection :D
 
I like ubuntu.
Only distro i successfully installed on the first try.
But I'm not very good with linux and compiling and all that stuff i dont understand..
 
The ubuntu distros are more popular since those are a little easier for Linux newbies as the term would go there. Others go with SUSe or PC Linux. It also depends on the size of the distro you go with for what features are available. The newer releases have also helped in making installation easier then seen often with older ones.
 
I've used many distros in the past. my favorites have been SUSE 10.2 and i liked Sabayon 3.4f for my laptop, i didn't have to deal with that pesky bcm4xx business, the driver worked out of box. Sabayon was a rather large one though, i would've liked if it were smaller. I also find myself coming back to Ubuntu every so-often. 7.10 looks nice, doesn't play well with my HP tx1110 laptop though.

I'm an Ubuntu fan personally. Mint is pretty, Saboyan is cool, and I just flat out dislike Fedora.
