Hi, I have been wondering about this problem for a few years now and never thought to ask anybody why this is doing this. whenever i buy a new harddrive
say an 80 gig and run fdisk the drive says its only 39 meg. i eventually found out about a hard disk manager software to setup the drive it works good but i dont like keeping a bunch of disks for diffrent computers(drives) that is obsolete. I like using fdisk its easier and its only one disk.
Another thing is when i used to format a previous working drive i used to delete the partition to start from scratch then re-add the partition and the same 80 gig drive would show up as 39 meg then once i format it it would show 80 gig. If i remember right (a few years ago) once you add a partitiion it would show the actual size of the drive before you format say like a 500 meg drive.
The other day my dad got a virus and he wanted me to format his computer and i figured while im at it out of curiosity i ran fdisk and checked if his windows drive would show up as 80 gig or 39 meg and it showed 39 meg i thought that was kinda strange since its a working drive that was already formatted.
perhaps fdisk is obsolete now i dont know. i used it for alot of years and its now causing me problems that i cant explain. my bootdisk that i am using is
MS-DOS 7.10 Im using the fdisk on that disk. I dont remember what the size of the other drives were but its the same problem for all of them i just used 80 gig as an example
