FEAR patch 1.7 won't install

Whenever I try to install FEAR patch 1.7 (Global) it says:
This version is only compatible wit the English (United States) version of FEAR. Please use the correct update for the installed version of the game.
Why does it say this?
 
Did you get your copy of FEAR from Direct2Drive? If you did, that is your problem.

Before you update anything, learn this one lesson which is very important: Make sure you read all the general update information carefullly!

On the update page, it says that us Direct2Drive buyers cannot update at this time because there are incompatability issues with the new patch. We have to wait until further notice and should download the free version for online play.

Yeah I saw that, I have the DVD version.
 
Then uninstall your game, keep your save files when asked, then reinstall patch after patch in sequence.
Maybe your trying to update 1.2 to 1.7 directly and you're skipping 1.6.
Is that the case?
