Fed up with .mov files!

Alright I just want to let my problem be known... I cannot watch a Quicktime movie file on my computer without it freezing!!! This has been a problem for a couple years now, and of my two computers, neither can play any .mov file without a certain part of it freexing it up! Its totally random, but it seems every movie trailer, or video in the Quicktime format wants to corrupt itself on my computers. Even if I download the vid to my comp, there'll always be a particular frame that freezes the vid! This has been going on for a long time and I want to STOP IT.

I've tried re-installing QT and then I even upgraded to QT 7. Nothing different. Why the heck do these videos decide to freeze up? I there any way to fix it???

I was able to get a .mov file to play in Windows Media Player. Since Quicktime is freezing on you, try WMP.. This way we can first see if its the quicktime application that is the problem...

I don't think QT files work in WMP... it says I have an "error downloading codec."

But I did try a QT file in Realplayer, and it froze at exactly the same frame as before.

Did it give you any information about the codec you were downloading?

I just tried it again, but now it just freezes before the error message turns up. I think the player just doesn't like QT files... In the realplayer it just says "Cannot start playback"

Ok, I just switched over to my other (newer) computer, and WMP says "Source filter for this file could not be found." I then clicked "more information" and this is what it said:

80040241: Cannot perform the requested action
Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested action. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

You tried to play a .dvr-ms file (such as a file created by the Personal Video Recorder (PVR) in Windows XP Media Center Edition), and your computer is not configured to play this type of file.
To resolve the problem, see the Microsoft Download Center.

You tried to play a file type that is not supported by Windows Media Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file types.
Error ID = 0x80040241, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Then, under "list file types" it said:

File type (format) File name extension
Music CD Playback (CD audio) .cda
Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) .aif, .aifc, and .aiff
Windows Media audio and video files .asf, .asx, .wax, .wm, .wma, .wmd, .wmp, .wmv, .wmx, .wpl, and .wvx
Windows audio and video files .avi and .wav
Windows Media Player skins .wmz
Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2, .mpa, .mpe, .mp2v, and .mpv2
Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) .mid, .midi, and .rmi
AU (UNIX) .au and .snd
MP3 .mp3 and .m3u
DVD video .vob
Macromedia Flash .swf
Microsoft Recorded TV Show .dvr-ms

The file was not a .dvr-ms file it was .mov. and that isn't on the list

What version of WMP do you have? I have WMP 10.

When I first tried to open a .mov I got the message below and when I clicked yes the .mov file played.

I have WMP 10. And just to be sure, I tried loading a different file, and that one said "The specified module could not be found." The option you showed there never came up.

Thanks for the help, but now it just plays the sound of the clip. Plus, upon trying yet another file, it still puts up the "Error downloading codec" message.

*sigh* Gosh, I just don't understand it... I got quicktime alternative and that did nothing with the freezing.
