few questions before i buy

hi, im looking to buy a new laptop within the next week or so and im not to up to date with the computer stuff so am hoping you can point me in the right direction.

basically i have around 700 english pounds to spend but spending any less would be a bonus... ill be using it for collegework, so ill be using cad, photoshop etc .music, watching videos - maybe one with a hdmi port so i could link it to the tv for them and some light gaming. i would also prefer it to have a 17"+ screen

iv been looking at the sony vaios and dell but tbh have no idea which to go for can you help me?

Lots of ppl say dell is bad. However, I don't have particular view on dell laptop since I or friends I knew don't have serious problem with dell laptop.
The £679 Studio 17 provide a good value.
