I have been having this problem with upfile.com, etc. thay always said that I am downloading something, while actually I don't!! Anyway, I think its becoz of my shared IP connection... Is there anyway to get through this other than becoming a member??

shared IP connection ?
there is no way that 2 people could have the same IP
there must be something else wrong with this

Yes you can....All three computers in my house have the same IP, and many times in things like apartment buildings there is one powerfull line that is just routered to everyone in the building.

Each computer cannot have the same local IP address. If they each had the same local IP address, none of them would get a connection. Trust me, i have done it before, and it cant be done.

They have the same IP that the website would see, which is what would matter in this case...
Becuase your behind a common router, but the thread title says static ip which implies local IP.

you probably think they have the same IP because when you check online it gave you the same IP for all the 3 computers but the truth about this is that this is the IP of the router.
and Motoxrdude is right about the local IP
there would be an IP conflict and only one computer will have a connection ( whoever got there first )

Hes talking about a website not letting him download because hes already downloading a file, the IP that the website would see is not the local IP, it IS the IP that you would see when you go to one of those websites that tell you your IP, because thats the IP it sees, for exampe in my other example with the aprtment building where they router it to each room in the building everyone there could go to the same website and the website would see them as having the same IP.

I run and mantain several websites of my own, and If i visit my website with all three of my machines then it shows the same IP.

Another example sometimes my friend will come over and bring his computer and he just plugs into the router and we play online games while shes over, and in Day of Defeat Source we cant play because we get "temperary blinded for ghosting on the same IP" because it sees the same IP coming from both of us.

The website and any other website that checks if your downloading a file ith the same IP(I belive rapidshare also does) would still see the IP in the way I'm talking about, so if he is on a shared IP with other people then when other people on it are downloading that could be why he can not download.

I didn't say you are wrong :)... but i'm just telling you the reason why websites see them with the same IP
it's because the 3 are behind one router

Well, then, I got that part... It's true that my ISP seemed to use on router only... what inconvenience... so does that mean that there is no way for me to actually download form those site... you see, I am sharing this wireless connection in the neighbourhood... All those file-hosting webs are giving me headaches each time I tried to download anything! Any idea guys?

If you want to pay 4$ a month you can get a chep webhost with a decent amount of bandwidth and run a proxy for your use only.

So.. it is not possible to change your proxy without paying?? Well, actually I tried to write this down on the up-file.com support team... they reply "About IP just use proxy if you dont have exclusive IP"... Do they mean using a my own proxy server?
