I have two computers both running Ubuntu 10.10 and I would like to set up a network to share files. Also, since I have one monitor, I would like to use remote desktop to look at Computer B's screen. I have a linksy's wireless router which I use to file share and remote desktop Computer A at the present time.
This is where I am confused.
My router has 5 ports for ethernet on the back, one of which is for the DSL connection. Computer A is connected to the internet via port 1. Naturally, I connected Computer B's ethernet to port two. Internet works perfectly on both computers. However, I cannot see Computer B from Computer A and vice versa in whatever Ubuntu's version of Finder or My Computer is. What strikes me is that I can see and exchange files with my Macbook Pro which is connected via wireless.
When I got my router I configured it with windows, but since then that computer died. So I tried to reconfigure it with my Macbook Pro and it wouldn't let me do anything to the settings.
So I suppose my question is, Do I need to set up some sort of file sharing software to be able to see each of these computers from the other? Can someone from personal experience point me in the right direction?
