I have a 4.5 GB single file that I want to move to my 500Gb external however whenever I try it says that the file is too large for the destination system. I have more than enough room left and smaller things will still go through. Anyone have any ideas? The file moves fine to my 250Gb external...
 
Check how the drives are formated and be sure it's not FAT32. If it is, FAT32 has about a 4GB limitation. Unless you move the drive around to other computers that don't run windows, you could convert it to NTFS. Go to Start > Run > type CMD, then type convert x: /fs:ntfs (x being the drive)
 
if you convert the drive to a different format... then that is formatting. and it will all be wiped... :)
 
Umm, no, it isn't.

Converting from FAT to NTFS is a command line tool. It converts the file system without losing a thing.
