files/processes with timestamp

Is there any way of identifying what files/processes have been loaded over a specific time that will show the timestamp along with the file or process name?

The number of files that Norton has to check on my HD is 977,000+. Only several months ago, the number was closer to 400,000. I would sure like to find out if there is something shady going on here.

Click on Start -> Search -> Advanced Search (that's for Vista, differs slightly for XP). Choose Date -> is after and enter date. Click Search and it will show you all files installed on your PC after this date.

You may also want to consider clearing out your Temporary Files (particularly Temporary Internet Files) if you haven't already - they can add a huge number of files (and time) to an antivirus scan.

You can either do this manually, or by using a program like ATF Cleaner. To so with ATF Cleaner:

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
