OK...First off, i would like to thank EVERYONE that has had ANY sort of input on what to do and what to get when it comes to my build. This thread will hopefully be that last(as far as build wise goes) that i post up.

I have decided to attempt to build it myself, for a couple reasons. Mainly, i need a new project and feel this would suffice and keep me busy for a little bit. Also, i think, based on what i have been reading and seeing, that i would be saving a ton of money in which i can put in to upgrade the parts.

I have been looking to spend around $1000-$1500. If i spend the $1500, i would like for it to include a new monitor. Daisy has put together a build that seems to work quite well, which i will post up. There is also another thread going around by Treddstone that is pretty well done, so ill post that up to. Id like for it to be able to last me a couple years and ill be mostly playing Starcraft 2 and surfing the internet. Ill also be attempting to burn Blu Rays. Thats pretty much the extent of my computer usage. So comments/builds/opinions are greatly appreciated. Also, it does get VERy hot in my room, so cooling would probably be needed to be upgraded, unless the case fans will be enough.

I have been going through some cases(i am spending the most time on this, because i am going to look at it everyday whether im using it or not. I like the side panel to have a window, and the ports to be easily accessible. However, upon reading "how to keep your PC quiet" thread, this one was suggested.

Although i would substitute more memory, a bigger hard drive, and a better video card, like he suggested. Just dont know which ones would be better.

I am very sorry for the long post, but its hard to get out everything i want to say and keep it short. Also, someone recommended i wait till about 2 weeks before Starcraft 2 comes out, and build it then, being that better parts will be available. I hate waiting, but would that be a better idea? I dont think that anything will really be better than what i can put together now, and not run Starcraft 2 very well. I will be ordering various parts over a month period or so, depending on how much i want to order at once. I can buy it all now, with money not being an issue, but i figured id stretch it as i am in no hurry. If i stretch it, i can always upgrade parts to get better ones if need be.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP!! IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I forgot to add that there is a Microcenter less than 10 minutes from my house, so if there is any deals that are better to buy there, than i can always do that.

OK, i fixed the links to Daisy build. However, i have been searching for an hour and CANNOT find the Build that Aastiii put together! :mad: Basically, i am looking to spend $1000 - $1500 on a new computer build. If i go the route of the $1500, i would like it to include a new monitor. Right now, i have a samsung syncmaster 914v. Its ok, but i think it might need upgrading. If not, then ill just spend the money on the build itself. I would like to go with an i7, as a LOT of people seem to be recommending that. Daisy seems to be VERY good at recommending builds, but he built an AMD, and i think id like i7. Any input?
 
My recommendation is purely based on you want to spend $1000 for a machine which could play game and burn blu-ray disk.

However, core i5 750 would be faster. If your budget is $1500, you probably spend $200 - 250 on monitor. While for that spare $250, you could get 5850 [+150] + core i5 750 [+50] + P55 mobo [+50]

And I thank you for your help Daisy. For my price what would you build? I like the i7 but if its not doable than I can move on. However, like I said, if I spread it out, I'm Willing to go up in numbers. And if I need a monitor I can always add one on later. Right now I have a working computer, so if I play with this and take my time I can deal.
 
I agree about holding off on a monitor for now and put the cash toward some hardware upgrades. Your Samsung will do you fine until you save up enough $ for a 23-24" model.

Newegg has some stellar deals for Black Friday/Thanksgiving weekend. Yeah it is 5 months away but if you can wait so much the better. I was able to get a Samsung SyncMaster 2494 (24" widescreen) at a great price.

Of course the Egg is always having deals. :)
 
Yea I figured. Would hold off on the monitor for now and just use he extra to put towards the PC. It will probably take me a while to get it up and going because i have never built one by myself before. By that time ill get a new monitor or just use this one. Now its just a matter of piecing the build together.
 
OK, i think i am going to go ahead and buy my i7 930 tomorrow from Microcenter. Its on sale for $200 and i think it will be well worth it. I am also going to probably buy windows 7 64 bit there also. Should i hold off on Windows? It will get me started in my parts buying. Now i just have to match up pieces with an i7 Build...

Do i really need one that high tech though? I am simply going to be playing SC2 and youtube videos. Maybe running netflix to my tv, but thats about it.

This is what I am doing too and want to use my computer for! SCII and Blue-ray burning! I've just got into this "building my own computer though". It should be fun.

Hey, i dont know whats up with the links. The ones Daisy posted should be working, but i cant seem to find the other thread that the links were in. I have decided to go with an i7 930 (simply because it was on sale at Microcenter for $200!!) I dont think im going to go with an SSD either. A lot of people seem to be discouraging them, and stating they are not as fast nor worth the money. I have two options for the ram...


I am not sure which i am going to go with. I am hoping that someone has some good opinions. Also, i am STILL looking for a case(who knew this would be the toughest choice!!!) I have been told to go with the full sized case, though i am still thinking mid might be better. Here are the 2 i was told about...

As for GPU...i am still in the air, but i think i have made a decision. Just waiting till after i choose my case and get it and put in the motherboard and i7...

Hows your build coming so far? I see your pretty much going the route i am. I am learning a TON from these forums, and these guys/girls are GREAT for help. Hey, did you happen to finish your build at all? Howd it come out? I altered my build COMPLETELY! Hopefully for the better...
 
Omag, you can combo Win7 with pretty much anything from Newegg, and basically get it for $90 instead of the $118'ish after taxes that you'll spend at Microcenter. If your card isn't already part of a combo, a lot of the GPU's from Newegg will combo with Win7 which would save you almost $30.

You don't need a full tower case. Very Nice Case/MoBo combo ... or if you already have the case, MoBo & Ram 1 or 2

OCZ DDR3 has a really bad reputation around here. This looks a lot better if you don't go for the MoBo combo's.

The Video Card you mention upstream, with Win 7 combo'd

...and I like this 5870 with Win7 better. You can overclock the voltage, and the reviews are great. Mine arrives tomorrow. :D

Edit: Sorry... looks like new egg switched off those combos since just this morning, but you can still get Win7 at the egg for $100
