got a i7 950 as chrismas present and planning to use my old dx58so mobo for this build. its my first build.

Antec 1200 169.99

XFX HD 6870 254.99

Corsair CMPSU 750W 109.99

G.SKill 6GB (3x2GB) 96.99
Spinpoint f3 1TB 74.99

Asus DRW 24X Burner 19.99
Total is 727$ CND

Did i choose reliable brands for each item or there is another option?? I still trying to lower the total cost , maybe by 50$..if its possible. Hope any1 can help me out. thank you!

Can't say anything about the Spinpoint but all else looks very good. The only caution I have is make sure the memory you picked will meet your motherboard's qualified memory list.
 
I know you're trying to go down, but look at this power supply. The antec 1200 is one of only three cases that will fit it, but it's one of the best units on the market. It's better than that corsair in every way.

Otherwise, without using one of the CP power supplies, the 1200 is pretty expensive for what you get. You could probably take $50 off of the price just by getting a cheaper case, and still have most of the 1200's functionality. Less than $50 if you still want a full tower, though.

Is 850W too much for my rig?? or its fine?
 
you should have no problem, Slacker7 is talking about the Qualified Vendor list, or QVL, which is a list of tested ram sticks for your mobo, found on the manufacturers site, but you should be fine even if it is not on the list as there is simply to many brands of ram to test them all.

As for the power supply, a PSU can't be "too much" for your system, but I suppose I should explain why I recommended that. Any other PSU that performs as well as that one would be nearing $300...it's among the most stable units on the market. I figure you might as well grab it if you have the ability, you know?

The spinpoint f3 has arrived...but i didnt come with a sata cable...do i need to buy it myself?

Your Corsair power supply should have them come prepackaged, at least I know both the 750/850 TX and HX models do for power and your motherboard for data.

Are you talking about the data cable or the power cable? The actual SATA data cable will come with the motherboard.

Another Question..

i know the CPU come with a Cpu cooler and thermal paste, are they good? should i buy another cooler and thermal paste?
 
If you aren't overclocking (I assumed not because of the mobo), they're probably fine. They wouldn't package it with the CPU if it was going to damage something. :good:

but i cant find any teach you how to do the first boot and setting up the bios:confused::confused:
can any1 help?
 
I wish I was more knowledgeable about Intel systems :/

I'm pretty sure the base clock on X58 systems is 133MHz, right? So if you set the multiplier of the RAM to 12, it should be the right speed for the memory you got. Default voltage should be fine, and you shouldn't have to change anything else.

Check your MB manual.
The sata 1 port on the MB is usually where the drive that will contain the os is connected.
There may be a referenced port on the MB for the optical. Example: mine is 5 or 6 when installing the os, so I just leave it there. If not then whatever port you choose.
Go into the bios ( i think it's usually by tapping quickly on the delete key as the system starts, in the bios will be a legend that tell you what keys do what to navigate in there) and go to the boot tab for the boot order/priority. Appoint the optical as the 1st boot device.
Reboot and put the disc in.
If the disc doesn't run, you can reboot into the bios and disable any other boot devices listed, leaving only the optical enabled as the 1st.
After installing os, go back to bios and configure the disc with the os as 1st. and usually the optical is second.
 
Got another problem...
the PSU only have 2 sata cable...
one for aux power another 1 for Hard driver
how about dvd rom??should i share it with hd and dvd rom?

Each has 3 connector...can i use one cable connect the dvd and hd without using a spliter?
