Here's the setup I made. Later I will upgrade to x48 and ddr3 memory. What would you rate this setup from 1 - 10,
1 being the worst and 10 being the best. Honest opinions please.

Also, anyone know a case that can fit all this? I want an elite case, and I want a nice looking with that has lights such as comps like alienware which got lights in them.

Thank You

Why don't you just wait a month till the x48 chipset comes out instead of wasting your money? You can buy a Yorkfield then too.

Ok, so please rate what I have right now, and rate what you would give me if i had x48 instead of x38 and 45nm instead of 660.

Thank You.

I will use this for top gaming. I might and i might not clock. Not sure. Would it still be good without being overclocked?

I wouldn't give it such a top notch grade... maybe a 7, because I find that the mobo is too much, specially if its not overclocked, you could easily use a cheaper mobo. Because the RAM won't be used to its full potential unless its overclocked(but I am not sure), because the sound card may not be needed, the mobo you have seems to have an excellent sound and other mobos have excellent sound nowdays, so I would try a regular mobo sound first and then see if it suits me rather than just buy, its quite easy to add after. Finally, you don't need an aftermarket fan unless you plan to overclock, which you may not do. Then, that PSU can deliver 700W, when your system could easily cope with 500W.

So, basicly I find not everything is optimized in there, so I can't give any higehr than 7.

Ok, what If i waited for x48 and used that instead. Also if I waited for the 45nm. Lat but not least What If I overclock them.

Would that be better?

And is overclocking legal?

Overclocking is legal but just like hitting your computer with a baseball bat, it will void the warranty. I mean, the computer is yours, its not like if you were renting it.

If you were overclocking, then of course u'd be making better use of the parts u chose.

But I still believe that for the most part, you don't need such "highly" overclockable parts. Going for X38 or X48 based mobo won't give you dramatic increase in performance, maybe in overclocking, it will help but that's all. As far as I'm concerned(someone correct me), the Gigabyte P35-DS3L would do just as well.

But what I totally agree on is the GPU, the CPU... The HDD is ur choice and the DVD burner, well its just that.

Hmm ok i guess I will overclock then. So if I do overclock, will those fans be ok?

Also, the motherboard i'll decide on. Most likely wait for x48 tho. But will x48 support ddr2? or only ddr3 memory?

So then if I overclocked, and got x48 what would you rank that?

is x48 better then P35C-DS3R? which is future proof?

Do they both use ddr3 only?

When is 45nm coming out?

Both the x48(I assume) and the P35C-DS3R support DDR3, of course normally the X48 should be more future proof since it didn't even come out yet.

The 45nm should come out early 2008.

Cpu - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Later upgrade to 45nm

MotherBoard - Wait for 48x

Ram (memory) - ddr3 ram

Video Card (graphic card) - EVGA 512-P3-N806-A1 GeForce 8800GT SSC 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Sound Card - Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional series

HSF - Zalman 9700 (if i need it)

Hard Drive - Western Digital Raptor X WD1500 10,000 RPM- OEM

PSU - OCZ GameXStream 700W

Disk Drive - SamSung

How's that?
Also, what ddr3 memory should I get?
When's x48 coming out? early 2008 also?

Well, Raptors were made for basically gaming. I'd go with one of the same price (I prefer Western Digital... as they have not failed me yet... even my 1995 one) and get one with a lot more GB. You'd only notice the Raptor's RPM difference in game loading like BF2...
