finally, ammo box

Well i've had it lined up about 3 times before, but then there was always a reason that i couldn't, and now i'm going to finally do it since i've been without my laptop for about a week and i would like to have a nice desktop for when i'm not able to be on the lappy.

The plan is to get a 40MM ammo box off of Ebay with the dimensions of 18 ¾”L x 10 ¼”H x 6 ¼”W, then take a cheap-o case and cannabilize it for the drivemounts and mobotray.

pretty much just like on this: http://www.spodesabode.com/content/article/ammo

here are the specs:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819116001
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814143054
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820161675
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822152022R
PSU: Not sure off hand, but its an ATX PSU w/ 500W, 28A on +12V
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813135009

The CPU will be OC'd to 3.0-3.2 GHz i hope, since i will have AS5 and a nice copper heatpipe FHS on it.

Every single part should fit if i've done my models correctly, but heat is an issue i think.

Any comments? suggestions?

Oh, thank you Motoxr, i was thinking about just going with a cheap amd 3200+ and socket 939 mobo until the new quad core cards went down, or i could afford the C2D chips, but then i changed my mind and figured that since i don't to a whole lot of gaming besides the occasional BF: Vietnam and probably BF2142 once i get it, that the PD would work for me.

what are your thoughts on this?

I love the idea of it. Just remember not to have your mobo touch the metal box as it will short out. Do you have an old case or means of mounting the motherboard with the given screws and standoffs?

I would get this cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103732
With this mobo:

It will give you a lot more performance for the money. If it is above above budget, then the other configuration will work well also.

Yes, i was going to use a cheap case for the drivemounts, motherboard trey, psu mounting, ect.

i do have 2 old cases, but both are 1mm thick metal, and i think it would just be easier to buy a cheap case that had .5mm metal since it would be much easier and quicker to dremel.

well, i've come up with a second option for parts, although it is a bit more expensive then the original, i think it will eliminate some of the heat issues and give me a preformance boost.

BTW:Thanks for suggesting it Motoxr.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103732
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130542

so alltogether factoring everything in, option one includes:

Pentium D 2.66
1gb ddr2 667
200gb hdd
dvd burner W/lightscribe
PSU : 500W, 28A +12v
7600GS (X800GTO is out of stock)
rosewill wireless keyboard and mouse

for $525

option 2

AMD X3800 X2
1gb ddr2 667
200gb hdd
dvd burner w/lightscribe
psu: 500w, 28A +12v
7600GS
rosewill wireless keyboard and mouse

for $575

I'm thinking option 2 is the way to go now, and i'll put up one of my to-scale MS Paint models along with some other pictures of what i'm going to be doing.
