Well almost... It's currently in my old case. My new case should arrive tomorrow and my new cooler should arrive before the end of the week. Once they arrive I'll put things together a bit more properly...

Once I get the other case, I think I'll use my old 160GB as my boot drive and the 500GB as my storage/swap/temp drive.

I might have gone a bit skimpy on the RAM, but it seems to be doing quite well. I have the system overclocked to 3GHz and the RAM running at 1600MHz and everything seems quite happy. I'm downloading a demo of Crysis to see how the parts play together. I might clock it back down though because running stress tests caused the cores to hit 70*C. Right now their hovering around the mid-50s.

Any comments. I guess I can't do much now since I've opened the parts :P

The RAM link leads to the case. (that I don't like)
I like cases with side mount hard drive bays. :)

Run a SuperPI test. :D

You'll enjoy the build. :good:

Oops...link has been fixed :P But what do you know about cases ;P Haha, honestly I really wanted a Cooler Master Centurion 5 red, but I couldn't find it anywhere (at least not from dealers I knew) I'm going to see how this other case looks and feels. If it's very cheap, I might use my silver Centurion 5 and rebuild the old x4200 in the new case.

Oh, and SuperPi; 1M in 13 seconds. I'd say that's pretty fair :)

Ahh. I didn't know you were limited to local retailers for the case.

This is probably the best "budget" case Cooler Master has, imo:
COOLER MASTER RC-690 ($69.99)

Anyway, yeah, 13 seconds sounds about right for a 3Ghz overclock.
(right behind me :P)

Don't worry about that RAM either. You should be fine. :good:

I wasn't doing local, just ones I trusted. But none of them had that case and I really didn't like any of the other red ones I saw. But I ended up finding the CM Elite 335 for about $45 and free shipping so I'm not complaining.

Hey now, don't get too cocky about SuperPi. I might push this CPU a bit more once my cooler arrives ;)

OK, just got the new Coolermaster V8 installed. Still running at 3GHz, all the cores are sitting under 50*C while running Orthos and Crysis. I think this build was a success ^^

Running Prim95 right now in as 8 threads. It's really not causing too much of a lag on the computer... I have an HD youtube video playing and it's not lagging...well, until the buffer ran out :P Temps are still good too. Each core is between 60-65*C. I'm also running one less fan because the front 80mm I had was a bit noisy. While this thing's not silent, even under stress it's not as loud as my old X2.

Well I guess I'll leave the stress test going for a while now. Might as well screw it up now than later :P

That case probably does help. During the stress test, that PSU of mine was putting out some serious heat. I'm sure it couldn't be helping the surrounding components. Heh, and knowing me, I probably put too much thermal paste on the CPU. I think I'm bad about doing that :P

Oh well, it's cool enough for now. I might try and push it a bit farther, but it's not really necessary now. Darn thing's already a little heater.

The RAM's fine you skimped more on the PSU, Apevia's a bit cheap.

Actually if at all possible you should partition your 500GB and use that for Windows, it's likely a lot faster than your 160GB drive, and would make your games load faster and such

I was going to get a Thermaltake PSU but then this one became available as a special. It had more watts and quad rail. Surprisingly enough, the quality is very nice. The finish is awesome; photos don't do it justice! Assuming it'll last, this seems to be a very nice power supply.

As for the drive, I did a test-install of Vista on the 500GB and performance was mediocre. While burst speeds may be faster on the 500GB, I think the 160GB is faster. Regardless, I have the temp and swap file on the 500GB. The 160GB is mostly to load programs. I also rigged my 4GB Cruser to reside inside my case as a permanent ready-boost drive.
