Finally got my macbook

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING YOUR FIRST MAC, PLEASE READ YOU MAY FIND IT VERY HELPFUL.

Ive been a pc user from birth, and the recent rise in mac publicity and growing compatibility got my attention couple of months ago. I did make quite a few posts ranging from "whats the benefits of OS X" to "what colour macbook looks coolest" and even though everyones views were very helpful and generally all for my pc to mac loyalty transfer, i still could not decided whether it was a good idea. And as silly as it sounds i spent 2 months in a spin deciding whether to stay with vista (windows OS is compatible with everything, i wont have any problems as computers are always based on windows). Or should i be adventurous and try a mac, a completely new experience for pc user of 19 years, an OS X that is said to be the most advanced, looks the coolest, does everything how it should and is growing to be mostly compatible with microsoft applications. Now i had some worries, msn is big for me as everyone i know has msn and i cant think of a single person near me that uses AOL ICQ or .mac IM accounts or clients so a decent messenger client for mac was going to be essential. Gaming wasnt a big thing for me, but i did wonder about the occasional session of counterstrike which can be done over crossfire i think its called. Which colour would i get, black or white, it sounds stupid but deciding what colour looks best is a nightmare!! I eventually got the white one as i thought it had more Apple character than the black, plus if you use it in the garden when its sunny the white doesnt absorb heat and tbh it works with girls, my girlfriend and her 2 sisters love the look of it and her dad instantly said "wow very posh" when he first saw it. Exactly the views i wanted, people to think it was more than just a laptop, but a kind of accessory rather than a piece of machine. something i could take pride in.
Now anyone whos reading this, who is in the exact same predicament as i was 2 months ago i will now tell you just like most people who have made the jump, buying a mac is worth every penny. Why you ask? Well here is my list of reasons why i am totally in love with macs, the OS and its features. Bear in mind ive had XP ever since it came out.

1. the price is decent enough, ok mine cost me 750 with student discount and a pc equivalent laptop will cost around 500-600 depending on which make u get. But the price difference is because you are getting better quality everything!!! the software package u get you can make funky stuff with, i made a comic from using pictures i made from photobooth (a program that takes mangled pictures of you using the webcam) i mean its so much fun and u cant do that with a pc. The quality of the laptop is superb, you can feel how sturdy and well built it is, ive had 4 pc laptops ranging from dell to fujitsu to rock and this laptop cant even be compared to them in terms of build quality.

2. Operating system, now i thought it was going to be difficult learning a new OS, but if u have never used OS X before, you are in for a shock. I could not believe how easy it was, everything just works how it should. Instead of having to install and uninstall a program, all u do is download it to your desktop and drag it to your applications folder and its done, double click and theres your program ready to use, uninstalling is even more simple, drag that program icon to the trash (recycling) and its gone. It really does make you question windows, i mean theres little things on OS X which make u wonder why windows makes such a big deal out of it. Internet browsers are brilliant too, if you see a picture u want to save, rather than having to right click and save as etc, you just point your mouse over the picture and drag it to your folder and its saved.......why do windows make it more effort!?!?!?!

3. The sheer fun you can have with everything amazes me to why people still buy windows. I have used OS X for 5 days now and i can honestly say i would never use windows again by choice. Just the ability to create things such as photos and movies and music (which i havent had the time to use yet) and comics and the list is massive, you get a built in dictionary which ive always wanted on windows so it was such a suprise when i found it in my applications folder. Plus Macs best part is its ability to publish everything using .MAC which is free for 60 days. You can create your own websites and create blog sites etc. I cant really express how limitless the potential for time wasting is, i mean theres too much to do!!!

4. COMPATIBILITY......thats right, the main concern ive heard from most loyal pc users. If everything in the computing world is 99% made for Windows, why make life difficult for yourself? I was worried yes, but you will be surprised at the amount of plugins and mac alternatives for software. I got microsoft messenger.mac which works perfectly, it even looks better than Live messenger so that covered my msn worries. In fact every piece of software i used on my pc works on my mac. If u google most software with mac in the search box it will come up with a way to use that software. The great thing is that alot of Mac users are developers, and so you will find there are tons of freeware and plugins. Windows media player.mac works perfectly for streaming WMV files, microsoft office is made for macs too but its expensive unless you're a student. Basically compatibility is not an issue unless you love GPU thirsty games, which i did untill i got sick of crashes and having nightmares getting any game to just run normally on a pc. Because every macbook and mac is built with the same type of infrastructure and hardware, theres no problems of software not working on one mac and not the other like a pc. That software is specifically designed to run on a mac where software for a pc has to be capable of running on different spec systems.

My god why am i doing this, basically i just want to give those who are wondering whether to make the change a clear view of why its a good idea. You wont be disappointed believe me, a mac is built to impress.

very good point, i would never advise anyone to play games on a mac, let alone on a pc laptop. Ive always used gaming laptops, i had a rock xtreme CT with a geforce go 7800 GTX in it, it looked amazing on screen but it always overheated because its a laptop. Desktops are best for gaming, the experience on a larger LCD screen is worth it. But i would deffinately recommend an apple notebook, its blown me away...

i didnt read it but i know what you will have said and if i am right then you are right and mac is the way to go and that is just my opinion! im down for mac and my next new computer is going to be a mac!!!

cool :)
