Got my Windows Xp disc in the mail yesterday for my gsx620...couldn't get it to boot up however...fell asleep with it going thru it's routine and woke up at 2:30 am and the thing booted to the Windows screen thank goodness ! But what abou that product key ? There was no sticker on the envelop that the cd came in with the code/key. Can I successfully use a short-cut I read about on the internet to bypass the required key? After 30 days are up I don't want to have to go thru what I went thru to get it going again !

You'll need to put the key that is on the sticker attached to the case of the computer.

oh really ? Then that box that asks for the key I can just ignore ?

So did you physically use a dell operating system install cd or a microsoft windows XP install cd? If you used the dell cd then it should have not required you to enter a key.

I used the Microsoft Windows Xp professional cd...I don't see any little stickers any where...of course this is a re-furbished thing.

Then you are basically up the creek without a paddle. Since you don't have a cdkey that goes with windows XP pro you will need to purchase a new operating system that has an unused key.

Why would they send me something like that? When you say a new operating system do you mean just a brand new unused Windows XP disc ?

the cd didn't come in a box just a plain white envelop. After the 30 days are up can I just keep re-installing the same disc?

Did you look all over the computer tower for a license key that looks like this:

Yeah as Voyager said look all over the PC for a sticker like that. Also usually only OEM disks come in a white envelope. Can't see why it would ask for a key.

Unless he used a recovery disc and not an OEM install disc, you still need to put in a key. Only full recoveries don't require activation.

There is easy way to activate Windows OS even if you don't have a key.
But unfortunately it is against the rules on this forum to share that information so I can't help you there lol...:D

Anyway look for the stick with the CD key on your case.It MUST be there somewhere unless if you use a used computer and the stick was taken off long time ago.In that case you are fu**ed up lol.
Also if the disk you got and ESPECIALLY if you payed for it did not come with a CD key (and it was supposed to) then contact them and let them know that the disk is completely useless.
(It's not useless of course since I know ways to activate Windows anyway so that original disk would be perfectly fine for me lol,but like I said I can't tell you that here since it is against forum rules unfortunately).

So if the disk is useless since it did not come with a product key AND if you don't have a key written anywhere on your case then the CD disk you got is useless and you should contact them to either send you the FULL RECOVERY disk which do not require any keys OR to send you a new disk WITH the key OR to just send you the valid key for that disk (if any is available for that disk).

If all fails then the best thing you could do is to buy a new XP disk with a new license and problem solved. But you should not pay for it since they sent you something wrong "maybe".

Where did you buy the disk from, did it come from the company of the computer or did you buy it from somewhere else?
