Ok, so as most of you must know by now, i am a tramp. I scrimp and save and go for sub standard parts.

This upgrade is absolutely no different.

BUT

I will be moving up in the world none the less and i need to know which is better.

I have £200 to spend, no more no less.

I was thinking of

A) MSI Z77-G41 something or other (about 65 quid)
I3 3220 (or what ever its called - the 3.3ghz one)
8gb of 1600mhz ddr3. Not interested in brand etc, its gotta be better than my ddr2 what ever i pick so it will be what ever is cheapest.

OR

B) Amd platform (i need suggestions if im going for this one as i havent been following amd mobos or cpus)

I would like which ever is going to be best performance NOW, but also give me enough room to upgrade a good bit in the future.

My main games will be arma 2 and dcs World (a10c module mainly) These are a much for having silky smooth fps.

I will be on a 1080p monitor.

So suggestions please for mobo, cpu and ram. Can be used i dont care but must be purchasable sunday as thats when my other parts will be offloaded.

If any of you live in the uk and have a 1155 platform you want to offload stick it in the for sale section and i will have a look (obviously provided you meet criteria for posting and stick to rules etc)

As some of you can see from this post......IM EXCITED :D:D:D:D

PS....Yes i know upgrading wont be massive for me as i will potentially go from quad to dual etc etc. But its not the perfomance im massively arsed about its future upgrades. The cpu NOW is only a hold over.

So suggestions based on my budget please. Nothing like "buy new cpu cooler oc q6600"

If it were me I'd take the LGA 1155 platform and an i3 becuase then you could upgrade to an 1155 i5 in the future if you wanted to. 8GB of 1600MHz RAM would be great.

What you have planned (the MSI board, the i3 3220 and the RAM) sounds good to me.

You could go AMD, the FX-4300 is about the same cost as the i3 but I'd get the i3 because as I said you can upgrade to an i5 or i7 later and that's a better upgrade path in my opinion than an FX-6300 or FX-8320 would be from an FX-4300 with the i5s usually being faster (but more expensive).

It really depends how long you want to keep it for. If you want to upgrade soon after you buy it all, the AMD platform with it being cheaper would probably be better, but if you're looking to not upgrade for a long while, then yeah go i3.

I shall go for the i3 then :P Thats sort of what i figures :D

Any suggestions on parts, ram etc? Preferably £190 but £200 is the limit (£190 it a nice amount £200 is pushing it for me haha)

price needs to include shipping.

Anyone know how the i3 3220 comes out against q6600 stock? Iv been running q6600 stock after my old oc needed to be reset and i couldnt be bothered redoing it.

Couldnt care less so long as it gets here in one piece :P

EDIT: the benchmarks on anandtech look like the q6600 beats it. Are there any gaming benchmarks as i dont do anything else with my pc :P

OK it comes to £202 on Novatech, is this OK?

CPU http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...encorei3,i5andi71155socket/bx80637i33220.html

Board http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/intel1155z77chipset/ga-z77p-d3.html

RAM http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...dr3-pc3-12800/1600mhz/f3-12800cl9d-8gbxl.html

Mike, look again, lower is better in most of those benchmarks, so actually the i3 beats the Q6600. In fact, the i3 beats the Q6600 on just about every single benchmark there is there.

Ahh lol :P Thats my fault for thinking bigger is better :P.

Awesome. So at the least its a good upgrader and the most a nice performance hit.

I know this seems really petty but that 2 quid would literally break my bank :P Im on a stric £200 lol. I will keep the parts in mind and see if i can find them seperatly.

Found somewhere i can get the stuff for less that £190, i just have to pick it up ;P

You'd really want a Z77 board with that CPU, so I'd get the Z77 board. The CPU will work in a Z68 board, but you need to ensure that the board has the latest BIOS and it's impossible to update the BIOS on that board without a CPU installed. If you go Z68, the i3 2120 would be a better choice.

Try to get the stuff from Aria if possible.

The board is order only, means ill be waiting for ever for it :P I know dabs are shit if they dont have something in stock there and then :P.

Settled then :D Thanks :P

Now, just keep my fingers crossed that this guy shows up to buy the stuff. If not ill cry. Literally.

No problems! It should be a nice upgrade for you!

You sold your Q6600, board and RAM I presume?
