Finding a psu trouble

Im trying to find a psu and i keep running into dead ends.

the graphics cards i find all have 6 pin power connectors, and most have 2 of them!

do i need to use both?

aside from that fact, if i did need to use both, then i would need a psu to power the following:

6- 6 pin PCIe ( 3-way SLi )
motherboard and all other connections....
2 water pumps
3 HDD
6 External drives( dvd burner, cd drive, card readers, etc)
11- 120mm fans

Think you guys can help me find a PSU?

ALSO- if i plug in my fans into a fan controller, will the fans get power from the controller itself? if so, what kind of connection does a standard fan controller use for power? molex? SATA?

Thanks guys, your a great help!

hmmmm, that psu looks interesting, thanks.

so with the fan controller getting power through molex, do the fans get power from the controllers power?

Yes. What video cards are you planning on using? Because the next generation of high-end cards are all likely to use an 8pin PCI-E + a 6pin PCI-E.

For a system like that, you'd really want to be looking at the 1KW+ PSUs. I'd take a look at the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W/1200W, or maybe the Coolermaster Real Power Pro 1250W.

are they nuts? I mean, doesnt the 8800gtx draw enough power already? they should really make cards that consume less power again, I mean, a pc that uses 1200Watt to run? thats 1/3 of the ammount of power you need for a average welder, or half the power a Electric oven uses!

hmmm, so with fan con's, if there are 4 fans into one controller, are the fans all plugged into the controller itself and the controller provides the fans power through its ONE molex connector?

oh and i found a 1600W PSU i really really like, its the same price as thermaltakes 1200W.......its polished grey chrome too =]

Fans don't really draw that much power, 4 fans off a single molex shouldn't be a problem at all.

Which 1600W PSU are you looking at?

To give you some idea of realistic power consumption numbers:

And stunningly high we got. The 3-way SLI system averaged 730W in Bioshock, and get this, we even saw the machine pull over 800W from the wall outlet.

Aside from the GPUs, the system wasn't even that demanding!
CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 @ 3.33GHz
Motherboard EVGA nForce 780i SLI
Video Cards NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra x 3
Video Drivers NVIDIA: 169.18
Hard Drive Seagate 7200.9 300GB 8MB 7200RPM
RAM 4x1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-12
Operating System Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

nVidia seem to be recommending 1100W+ PSUs for these sort of systems. 1600W should still give you plenty of breathing room :).
