finished my first OC

ok im up to 245x 15
so 3.675

i think ive reach an upper limit cause i cant get into windows at 250

must be the cheap ram

i havent bumped up voltage at all

I have the same rig and have pulled 3.8 with little problems. The lack of increasing Vcore will limit you oc, and your ram (if maintain in sync) could be holding you back.

Not guaranteed to happen, each chip is its own standard when it comes to overclocking.

They are automotically locked omn that board, but as a note had these not been locked you would have hit issues before now.
 
ok i dont think its the ram holding me back

i set it to 166mhz or whatever is the lowest and then jacked the bus to 250 and it wouldnt even boot to bios

so i guess its time to boost the voltage but
im kinda afriad to do that

there seems to be a discrepency between mother board monitor and bios by 3-4 degrees

so which is right?

No need to be afraid, just dont go crazy, up it 0.025v at a time
 
I found out my ram wasnt runnign at 240 when i was up to 3.6 it was running at 166

so the ram is the weak link

the highest i can get to with the ram is 210 and that only puts me to 3.15

so heres the question

do i go back up to 3.6 and run the ram at 166 which gives me a 5002 3dmakr05 or do i run at 3.15 with ram at 210 which is 3dmark05 4935?

or do i buy better ram to get to 3.6 @ 240?
how much of a boos with the new ram give?
Im looking for that bandwith calculator

That is the same thing i had with my ram, it def doesnt do well over 210 even with a slight up in teh voltage. What i suggest is look into overclockers ram, which is meant to be clocked higher or just buy better ram, i really like ocz, and corsairs mid to top of the line isnt bad either. Just look around to get some good deals, or even wait closer to christamas, when deals get insane. gl
 
im looking into ram now i have a post int he ram part of this forum but ih avent gotten the answer im lookign for yet

I want to go with 2 x 1gb sticks

and im curious if I can run a higher speed ram ratehr than have to OC the ram

like for instance buy ddr600 and run it at a lower speed

that way i dont have to push the ram
I would still run the system at 250 bus but the ram wouldnt be the limiting factor any longer

and also then i wont have to buy new ram when i go to my next system cause ill already have really good ram
