Finishing too early

It's a problem many men have to deal with... But downloads finishing too early? Help!

Half the time I try to download something through Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 6, the download will get to a random percentage complete, and then complete itself. Say, if it is a 10mb file, it might download 1.5mb, and then say it's "complete". If you try to run the file you download, you obviously get a corrupted file message blah blah blah.
I've just tried downloading Online Armor Free 5 times, and each time it has completed too early. I don't think it's the site I'm downloading from (download.com), since I've received this problem in the past on other websites.
I'm on dial up (56.6k), and it's quite a pain to have to download the same program 5 times. I received this problem on my old modem, and the internet hasn't been cutting out, so I've pretty much ruled out a modem issue (other than the fact 56.6k sucks).

Any help fixing this issue would be appreciated.

I have seen a few mysteries like this on this forum, what AV are you using? Have you tried running like malware bytes or something like that?

Delete your temp files and items in recycle bin. I used to have that problem years ago and I believe thats what i had to do to fix the issue.

If nothing else works, try a dedicated download manager like Free Download Manager... those are almost guaranteed to finish it up.

Also, you should've titled the thread "Downloads finishing too early". "Finishing too early" by itself leaves room for certain extremely awkward... implications.

AVG Free 9.0
Malware Bytes
Spydot S&D
All updated and scanned in the last 2 days.

I haven't tried deleting the temp files yet (never anything in my recycling bin), but I'll give it a go... Only, there's not really any medium/large files I am interested in downloading through browser at the moment. I'll keep this in mind for the next time it happens though.

Oh we're in luck. Going to download Free Download Manager. Shall see if I receive the problem after clearing temp files.

Yeah clear out those temp files, I think the other person that had this issue was also using AVG though, so we will keep that in mind just in case this doesn't work.
