FireWall

Okay, I need a firewall that's not as stupid as Windows Firewall. I was thinking ZoneAlarm, but I can't find one by them that's Win7 compatible and is free. HELP!

BTW, I've tried multiple different firewalls, not just Windows Firewall, and they are very difficult to open ports on (for me that is)

You can open ports with your router if it has a built in firewall (mine does, +1 for telstra)

There should be a default ip address that you enter into your browser and it brings up your router config.

As for a software firewall, I've only ever used the paid version of AVG. I do here that zonealarm is good though, so wait for them to get windows 7 support.

I used Comodo and I couldn't figure out how to open ports... and even if I was doing it right, there was still "A firewall" that my WoW Downloader detected.

And I actually completely disabled my wireless router's firewall.

It's hard to open ports through Comodo... either that or my downloader doesn't recognize the open ports :/ ...

And please get rid of the URL in your sig.

I tend to use Windows 7 Firewall Control which works quite well in controlling the built in firewall. For the most part, a firewall is a firewall, so as long as the ports are being blocked, any should be as effective as the other.

I too tried Commando once and also had difficulty getting it working correctly. To be honest, i really like ZoneAlarm for my XP machines. Maybe I missed something with Commando, but the popups with ZoneAlarm were very nice. WIndows 7 Firewall Control has similar popups so it's quite easy to confirm it to specific programs.
